If you tell your loved one to avoid certain foods then it may anger him or her. Seniors may like chocolate cake, French fries, or other tasty treats. But, there are plenty of foods that may harm your loved one's body. Here is a list of five foods which are common and your loved one should avoid it to stay healthy.

1. Diet Soft Drinks

Diet soft drinks may lead to obesity, sugar cravings, or depression in seniors. If your loved one consumes soft drinks daily then it may be harmful to his or her health. Drinking sweetened soft drinks may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke. Seniors who consume more soft drinks may have a higher chance of having a vascular event. Your loved one may drink healthy beverages instead of consuming diet soft drinks. Some healthy alternatives for soft drinks are green tea or iced coffee.

2. Luncheon Meats

Packages or processed foods may increase your loved one's chance of developing cancer. Preserving processed foods by salting may still increase the risk of cancer in seniors. If your loved one wants to reduce his or her risk of cancer then avoid eating processed foods. Seniors may eat hot dogs or hams at occasional family gatherings. But, don't eat processed foods daily which may prevent the risk of cancer in seniors. Seniors may eat roasted chicken, grilled chicken, vegetables, or fruits instead.

3. Whipped Cream

Adding whipped cream to a cup of hot chocolate or pie may cause trouble for a senior's health. Whipped cream contains unhealthy oils and additives that may be bad for a senior's health. There is a high amount of calories and saturated fats present in whipped cream. Seniors who eat whipped cream with cakes or pies may also increase their body weight. If your loved one has a sweet tooth then try other alternatives for ensuring good health.

4. Cooking Spray

Food and Drug Administration recommends that cooking oil sprays are safe food additives. But, cooking oil sprays may enhance a number of fats consumed by your loved one's body. Seniors may use canola oil, cold-pressed, or organic for better healthy alternatives. These cooking sprays contain high levels of fats. One teaspoon of canola oil has more calories in it. There are some healthy alternatives to cooking sprays your loved one may use for flavor. It includes olive, canola, coconut, sesame, and peanut oils.

5. Canned Vegetables and Other Food Items

Many health problems may arise in seniors who use food items in stored in plastics. There is a harmful chemical present in water bottles, plastic cups, and plastic cans. If these items get heated then chemicals may enter the food and create many health problems. The health problems may include reproductive disorders, diabetes, or cardiovascular diseases. Seniors who microwave food wrapped in plastic may develop certain diseases. Many fatty foods like meats and cheeses cause chemicals to leach out of the plastic. Seniors should transfer frozen vegetables into a glass container before microwaving. As a result, seniors may prevent the harmful plastic compounds from entering the food.
